Morris Quad Artillery Tractor

Morris Quad gun tractor, of about 1940 vintage, a Dinky toy
This Dinky metal military vehicle dates from the 1960s, and is a model of a Morris Quad (4WD) field artillery tractor - a replacement for the horse troop of a bygone era. I do not know why this model has only one headlight, most pictures show them as having two - which suggests that this is an early one. I used to work as an apprentice mechanic for a garage back around 1980, and they had a similar model of Morris with a different cab for use as a breakdown - I still remember the wheels slowly turning as the truck remained in one spot on a tarmac road as we tried to pull a car out of a hedgerow. I also remember discovering the reason for the engine stopping one day was that we were out of fuel - a fact only to be discovered by getting out of the cab and using the fuel dipstick in the tank.

I have always liked this model, the Quad was neither a square box nor canvas hood on a flatbed, it was almost aerodynamic made using flat sheets.
